Microsoft (MSFT)

China is a vital market for Microsoft's Web search business, as it chases leaders Baidu Inc and Google in the world's biggest Internet market, the company said.
Since launching its English-language Bing search site in June, Microsoft has been gaining steady share in the United States, with 10.3% in November versus 17.5% for Yahoo and 65.6% for dominant player Google, according to comScore. Microsoft hopes to get off to a similar fast start with its Chinese-language Bing site, which is still in its beta phase following a low-key launch in June.

Intel (INTC)

The lawsuit filed by the Federal Trade Commission against Intel is "overblown" and won't lead to much of anything beyond perhaps a settlement, argues one market analyst following the case.
The FTC's case is multi-faceted, taking on Intel for alleged anticompetitive behavior, but also taking it to task for its x86 licensing terms and practices. The FTC's suit came after Intel had fought and lost similar allegations in Japan, Korea and Europe, the latter hitting Intel with a $1.45 billion fine (Intel is appealing).

IBM (IBM)

IBM said that its Global Financing unit will provide underwriting services to four providers of technology used to advance electronic record-keeping, clinical software solutions and information management among healthcare organizations and practitioners.
The offer is important because it addresses a high priority on the government’s list of infrastructure projects, namely, the large-scale modernizing of electronic healthcare records, known as EHR, as reflected by the backing of some $20 billion in funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), commonly referred to as the stimulus package.

HP has applied for a trademark on the Zeen moniker, according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and described it as covering a “portable handheld device for receiving and displaying text and images and sound; computer software for use in transmitting and displaying text, images and sound; computer peripherals; computer hardware.”
Over the last few months, the company has quietly been applying for some glitzy-sounding trademarks, the glitziest of which cover mobile computing devices and wireless lifestyles.

Apple (AAPL)

Apple's data-hungry iPhone at times overwhelmed London operator O2's network during the last six months but additional capacity helped ease the problem by December, O2 said on Tuesday.
O2, which is owned by Spain's Telefonica said some customers in the UK capital had periodically not been able to make or receive calls or transmit data because of pressure on the network from smartphones such as the iPhone. O2, whose exclusive contract to market the Apple handset in the UK expired in November, had seen an 18-fold increase in data traffic since the start of the year, a spokesman said.
