Google Surprises with Top Management Changes

Google today issued a surprise announcement saying that Larry Page will be the company's CEO, with current CEO Eric Schmidt moving to Executive Chairman. Google's other co-founder Sergey Brin will focus on strategic projects, specifically, new products.
While this is a surprise to the market, Schmidt says that Page and Brin no longer "need adult supervision."

Abbott Laboratories announced that, it has received CE Mark for its XIENCE PRIME Everolimus Eluting Coronary Stent System for the treatment of critical limb ischemia (CLI) or severe claudication (pain) of the lower leg. Pfizer (PFE)

Privately held Theraclone Sciences Inc., of Seattle, has signed a multiyear research and development collaboration with Pfizer Inc. for the company's in situ therapeutic antibody rescue (I-STAR) technology. The deal makes Theraclone eligible to receive up to $632 million in research funding and milestone payments upon the achievement of discovery, development, regulatory and commercialization milestones, plus undisclosed royalties on future. Pfizer will be responsible for preclinical and clinical development of the antibodies.

Washington Post (WPO)

The Washington Post Co. today raised its dividend by 40 cents per share and said billionaire investor Warren Buffett will retire from its board of directors when his current term ends in May.
Losing a close relationship with Buffett could be a cause for concern, although Buffett has expressed a desire to leave all boards but Berkshire Hathaway's.

Southwest Airlines (LUV)

Southwest Airlines Co. said fourth-quarter profit rose 13 percent to $131 million, or 18 cents a share, from $116 million, or 16 cents, a year earlier, Excluding one-time costs, the airline had a profit of 15 cents a share, meeting the average of 14 analyst estimates compiled by Bloomberg.
The results show more people are flying as economy improves.
