General Dynamics Electric Boat, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics, has been awarded by the US Navy a $25 million contract for management and support of nuclear-maintenance work for submarines homeported at the Naval Submarine Base in Groton, CT.
The contract has a potential value of $78 million over three years if all options are exercised.

Ford announced today that a consortium led by Zhejiang Geely Group Holding Co. Ltd. is its preferred bidder in the ongoing discussions concerning the possible sale of Volvo Car Corporation.
Ford said that while it will be engaging in more detailed and focused negotiations with Geely, no final decisions have been made.

AstraZeneca said its net income increased 23 percent to $2.12 billion from $1.73 billion a year earlier. Earnings excluding restructuring and other one-time costs gained to $1.68 a share from $1.32, beating analysts' forecasts. Third-quarter sales gained 5.4 percent to $8.2 billion.

Kellogg's said its third quarter profits increased 5.6 percent to $361 million, or 94 cents a share, in the period ended Oct. 3, from $342 million, or 89 cents, a year earlier. Revenue edged down 0.3% to $3.28 billion.
Earnings topped analysts' estimates.

Entergy Louisiana's 669,000 customers could face a bill of $208.9 million if state utility regulators agree with the company's plan to scuttle the Little Gypsy power plant conversion in southeastern Louisiana.
Touted only two years ago by the utility and regulators as a major cost-saver for electricity customers, the combination of much-lower natural gas prices and the uncertainty of future carbon legislation led to the project's three-year suspension by the Public Service Commission in April.

The ratings agency Moody's today said third-quarter earnings fell 11 percent to $100.6 million, or 42 cents a share, from $113 million, or 46 cents, a year earlier.
Company said the global economic slowdown slowed demand for structured debt rankings, but it said full-year profit will be more than it previously predicted.

Aetna said today that its third-quarter net income climbed 18 percent to $326.2 million, or 73 cents a share, from 277.3 or 58 cents per share. Revenue rose 9% to 8,704.4 million from 7,981.4 million.
