Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. (AJG)

Arthur J. Gallagher today reported a third quarter profit of $41.6 million, or 41 cents a share, up from $37.8 million, or 40 cents a share, a year earlier. Revenue rose 2.6% to $439.5 million.
The insurance broker and risk-management firm also said it will reduce its work force by about 4%, or 400 positions, through a combination of cuts and attrition over the next few months.

Honeywell (HON)

Honeywell today announced that its process control technology was selected by Valorly, a division of the French utility Suez Environnement, to help increase the amount of thermal and electrical energy Valorly generates from residential waste.
The resulting renewable energy will help meet 2020 European Union commitments for heat and transport sector requirements. The project involves the migration of Valorly's existing process control system to Honeywell's Experion® Process Knowledge System and will be undertaken at Valorly's Rillieux-la-Pape production plant.

General Dynamics (GD)

General Dynamics has been awarded a $110.3 million contract to modernize classroom training technology by the U.S. Army Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC).
This is a one-year task order awarded under the Information Technology Enterprise Technology Solutions -2 Services (ITES-2S) contract. The program will deliver a digital platform for schoolhouse instructors to conduct training and communicate from the schoolhouse to remote training facilities and Reserve components.

Ford (F)

Autoworkers in Missouri have overwhelmingly rejected a new contract with Ford Motor Company.
Ninety-two percent of workers at the Kansas City Assembly Plant voted against changes to their contract. Ford and the United Auto Workers union agreed to the changes to help lower Ford's labor costs, but UAW members must ratify the changes. Several other local unions have voted in favor of the changes.

Entergy (ETR)

Entergy has been recognized as one of the Top 10 utilities in North America for its work to support economic development for the second straight year.
The recognition came from Site Selection magazine. Site Selection recognizes utilities for their performance in four categories: capital investment, job creation, capital investment per capita, and jobs per 10,000 in population during the course of the 2008 calendar year.

Dow Chemical (DOW)

Dow Chemical lost a request for dismissal of a claim brought against it over an alleged European rubber cartel.
The High Court in London ruled today that Cooper Tire & Rubber Co., the second-largest U.S. tiremaker, and a group of other companies can sue Dow in the U.K. Lawyers for Dow argued at a hearing earlier this month that the court shouldn’t consider the case because the alleged cartel didn’t operate in England.

Marvel Enterprises (MVL)

Marvel Entertainment today announced that it has set October 30, 2009 as the record date for the determination of stockholders entitled to vote at its upcoming special meeting of stockholders. This record date replaces the previous record date of September 29, 2009.
At the special meeting, Marvel’s stockholders will be asked to adopt the merger agreement entered into by Marvel and The Walt Disney Company, which provides for a merger in which Marvel will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Disney.
