Media Sciences International, independent manufacturer of color toner cartridges and solid inks for use in color business printers, Friday said it posted a fiscal first quarter loss of $259,000, or $0.02 per share, versus net income of $477,000, or $0.04 per share, in the year-ago quarter, which included a non-recurring $1,500,000 litigation settlement recovery. Net revenues were $5,507,000, a $245,000 or 4% decrease year-over-year and an $118,000 or 2% decrease over the prior quarter. Gross margin at 38.7% of net revenues, versus 45.6% for the same period last year.

Boeing (BA)

The president of Sea Launch Co. says he expects Boeing to drop all or most of its ownership of the satellite-launching business.
Kjell Karlsen heads Long Beach, Calif.-based Sea Launch, which filed for bankruptcy protection in June. He said in Thursday's Los Angeles Times that he doesn't expect Boeing to commit any more capital but the aerospace giant is likely to continue as a supplier. Boeing Co. spokesman Joe Tedino declined to speculate on the company's future with Sea Launch. Chicago-based Boeing owns 40 percent of the company.

United Technologies (UTX)

United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX), today announced it has reached an agreement to purchase the GE Security business from GE (NYSE: GE) for $1.82 billion. The closing is pending regulatory approvals. GE Security, part of GE Technology Infrastructure, supplies security and life safety technologies through a broad product portfolio for commercial and residential applications that include fire detection and life safety systems, intrusion alarms, and video surveillance and access control systems. Headquartered in Bradenton, Fla., the business has eight manufacturing facilities and approximately 4,700 employees in 26 countries.

Boeing has been awarded a $72 million U.S. Air Force contract for more than 2,900 Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) tail kits.
Boeing will deliver the kits in 2011 and 2012. The Lot 14 production order is the second one-year option of a six-year contract Boeing received in January 2008.
