United Auto Workers union overwhelmingly rejected a proposed cost-cutting deal with Ford Motor Company, delivering a setback for the automaker as it seeks to bring down labor costs in line with U.S. rivals.
The UAW said that 70% of production workers and 75% of skilled trade workers voted to reject a proposed agreement the union leadership and Ford Motor Company negotiated in October to change the 2007 four-year contract. The deal would have brought Ford Motor Company labor costs in line with General Motors Co and Chrysler Group LLC.

Wendy's Thursday said its third quarter earnings were $14.7 million, or 3 cents a share, a turn form a loss of $12.1 million, or 13 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Excluding one-time charges, the company said it would have earned 6 cents a share. Revenue rose to $903 million from $310 million on the back of the company's.

DirectTV said this third quarter net income was $366 million, or 37 cents a share, compared with a profit of $363 million, or 33 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Revenue rose to $5.47 billion from $4.98 billion.

Online travel agency Orbitz WorldWide said it posted a quarterly profit of $7 million, or 8 cents a share, compared with a net loss of $287 million, or $3.44 a share, a year ago. Revenue fell 22 percent, to $187 million,
Analysts had expected $202 million in revenue.

The TJX Companies, Inc. today said that sales for the four-week period ended October 31, 2009, were $1.7 billion, up 15% over the $1.5 billion achieved during the four-week period ended November 1, 2008. Consolidated comparable store sales increased 10% compared to last year for the four-week period ended October 31, 2009
Analysts had expected same-store sales to rise 10.1%.

MGM Mirage said it has a third-quarter net loss of 750.4 million, or $1.70 a share, compared with a profit of $61.3 million, or 22 cents, a year earlier. The loss included a write-down of its CityCenter development, which is set to open in December.
Revenue fell 13% to $1.71 billion from $1.95 billion last year.
The revenue number did beat analysts' forecasts.

Scripps Networks Interactive Inc. has agreed to buy a controlling stake in the Travel Channel from Cox Communications Inc. Scripps Networks will pay $181 million to get 65 percent of the channel through a joint venture with Cox, which will keep the remaining stake, the companies said today in a statement. Cox will contribute the channel, valued at $975 million, and their venture will take on $878 million in debt.
Scripps bid trumps a bid by News Corp. for the cable- television network.
