Commerical real estimate company Mack-cali Reality Corp. said it posted a profit of $19.6 million, or 24 cents a share, down from $23.1 million, or 34 cents a share, a year earlier. Funds from operations, an important profitability metric for REITs, dropped to 81 cents from $1.02. Revenue fell 5.2% to $193.6 million as base rents revenue, which makes up a bulk of the total, rose 5.2%; other income tumbled 69%.

Federal-Mogul Corp.'s said its third-quarter net income jumped to $15.3 million from $7.2 million in the prior year period. Net sales for the third quarter declined to $1.38 billion from $1.69 billion in the year earlier quarter.

PPL (PPL)

PPL, a Pennsylvania-based seller of electricity, today reported third-quarter earnings of $20 million, or 5 cents a share, down from $203 million, or 54 cents a share, a year earlier. Excluding items such as hedging and tax-related charges, earnings rose to 52 cents from 45 cents. Total operating revenues decreased to $1.805 billion from $2.971 billion a year ago. Revenue slumped 39% to $1.81 billion on hedging activity.
The company reaffirmed 2009 and 2010 earnings forecasts.

Expedia (EXPE)

Expedia today reported third quarter profit of $117 million, or 40 cents a share, up from $94.8 million, or 33 cents a share, a year earlier. Excluding items such as restructuring costs and foreign-exchange losses, earnings climbed to 48 cents from 39 cents. Revenue increased 2% to $852.4 million.
Earnings top Street expectations.

AutoNation (AN)

AutoNation posted a profit of $65 million, or 36 cents a share, compared with a year-earlier loss of $1.41 billion, or $7.99 a share. Revenue decreased 13% to $2.92 billion.
AutoNation said its massive cost-cutting phase is ending and the company will now focus on growing the business.
