Motorola (MOT)

Motorola surprised Wall Street by announcing that third quarter earnings of $12 million, or a penny per share compared with a loss of $397 million, or 18 cents per share, in the same quarter a year ago. ales fell 27 percent to $5.4 billion from $7.5 billion a year ago.
The company also forecast stronger-than-anticipated earnings for the current period.

American Electric Power (AEP)

American Electric Power today reported 2009 third-quarter earnings of $443 million, or $0.93 per share, compared with $374 million, or $0.93 per share, for third-quarter 2008. Revenue dropped 16% to $3.5 billion as cool summer weather and the ongoing recession weighed on sales.
Company CEO said company's sales to industrial customers in the third quarter were down 17 percent from a year ago, a slight improvement from second quarter, when industrial sales were down 20 percent.

Mylan (MYL)

Mylan Laboratories said today it had a third-quarter net loss attributable to Mylan common shareholders of $40.02 million or $0.13 per share, compared to profit of $182.36 million or $0.47 per share in the same quarter last year. Total revenues for the quarter declined to $1.264 billion from $1.656 billion in the prior year quarter. .
Analysts had a consensus revenue estimate of $1.23 billion in revenue for the quarter.

Procter & Gamble (PG)

Procter & Gamble today said its profits were off 1 percent at $3.35 billion, or 1.06 per share, compared to $3.31 billion, or $1.03 per share, a year ago. Sales fell 6 percent to 19.8 billion.
Earnings topped the company's guidance.

Garmin (GRMN)

Garmin shares plunged 18 percent after its Dutch rival TomTom (TOM2.AS) warned of falling selling prices and Google (GOOG.O) made a high-profile entry into the market.
"Google's announcement today introduces new challenges for both Garmin and TomTom and makes the threat from smartphones more real than it ever was before," analyst Yair Reiner of Oppenheimer & Co told Reuters.

LSI Logic (LSI)

LSI today said it posted a profit of $52.5 million, or 8 cents a share, up from $11.4 million, or 2 cents a share, a year earlier. Excluding the tax benefit and other items, earnings rose to 18 cents from 14 cents. Revenue dropped 19% to $578.4 million.
Tax benefit masked lower sales and margins.

Symantec (SYMC)

Symantec said its fiscal second quarter income rose 19 percent to $150 million, or 18 cents a share, up from $126 million, or 15 cents a share, a year earlier. Excluding items, earnings slipped to 36 cents from 37 cents. Revenue fell 2.9% to $1.47 billion. The security-software company also said it would buy back up to $1 billion in shares.
Strong sales in its consumer segment pushed results above expectations.
