Boyd Gaming Corp. (BYD)

Boyd Gaming said today it earned $6.3 million, or 7 cents a share, in the third quarter versus $8.7 million, or 10 cents a share, in the comparable quarter of 2008. Quarterly revenue was $398.2 million, down from $426.5 million.
Modest growth at its riverboat-style casinos in the Midwest and South couldn't offset disappointing numbers in Las Vegas.

Bank of New York Mellon (BK)

Bank of New York Mellon sees more acquisition opportunities in Europe than in Asia, the head of the world's largest custodian of financial assets said on Tuesday.
Robert Kelly, the bank's chairman and chief executive, said European financial institutions had been harder hit by the global economic crisis than their counterparts in Asia and were refocusing their businesses as a consequence.

IBM (IBM)

International Business Machines Corp., said today it will add $5 billion to its plan to repurchase stock. IBM said it will repurchase shares on the open market or in private transactions from time to time, depending on market conditions. The company also said that its board today declared a regular quarterly cash dividend of $0.55 per common share, payable December 10, 2009 to stockholders of record November 10, 2009.
The move rewards shareholders after back-to-back quarters of profit gains.

Bank of America (BAC)

Bank of America director Robert W. Scully bought 62,000 shares at an average price of $16.79 each on October 21. After the purchase, he owned 68,657 shares, up from 6,657 shares. His stake remains far less than 1% of the company's outstanding shares.
Scully, a former member of the chairman's office at Morgan Stanley, was appointed to the Bank of America board on August 21. The company requires independent directors to own a minimum of 10,000 shares by the end of their first five years of service.

Data through August 2009, released today by Standard & Poor's for its S&P/Case-Shiller(1) Home Price Indices, the leading measure of U.S. home prices, show that the annual rate of decline of the 10-City and 20-City Composites improved compared to last month's reading. This marks approximately seven months of improved readings in these statistics, beginning in early 2009.
The annual returns of the 10-City and 20-City Composite Home Price Indices, declined 10.6% and 11.3%, respectively, in August compared to the same month last year. Nineteen of the 20 metro areas and both Composites showed an improvement in the annual rates of decline with August's readings compared to July. Cleveland was the only exception.

Avery Dennison (AVY)

Avery Dennison Corp. said Tuesday its third-quarter profit was $62.5 million, or 59 cents a share, compared to $62.7 million, or 63 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Sales fell to $1.55 billion, from $1.72 billion last year.
The company slightly topped Street estimates.

Amazon.com today revealed the Holiday Toy List which features innovative search tools that allow customers to quickly narrow and expand search results simultaneously by “bestselling” or “average customer review,” then filter by age, gender, category, price and discount.
