AMR (AMR)

AMR's (NYSE:AMR) American Airlines and British Airways PLC (NYSE:BAY) received tentative approval on Saturday from the United States Department of Transportation to grant antitrust immunity. Reuters reported if the decision is made final, American Airlines and its oneworld alliance partners would be able to more closely coordinate international operations in transatlantic markets. In addition, the airlines would have to give up four daily pairs of slots at London's congested Heathrow airport. The two airlines have sought immunity to expand their pact on three occasions since 1998 and welcomed Saturday's decision.
AMR said this would benifit all of its oneworld partners and provide greater efficiency.
