AMR (AMR)

American Airlines (NYSE:AMR), looks to widen ties with Asia by welcoming India's largest airline into its oneworld global airline alliance, according to TradingMarkets.com. Kingfisher Airlines, India's largest domestic carrier and only five-star airline, has signed a memorandum of understanding with oneworld, signaling its intention to join the alliance, subject to Indian regulatory approval, officials said Tuesday.
The MOU agreement was signed at a meeting between Kingfisher Airlines' Chairman and CEO Vijay Mallya and CEOs from oneworld's 11 member airlines. American Chairman and CEO Gerard Arpey said the addition of Kingfisher will solidify oneworld's standing as the world's premier airline alliance. If Kingfisher's regulatory application is approved, the Indian carrier could become a member of oneworld in 2011, oneworld and American executives said.
